A panic attack is an extremely distressing physical experience of anxiety. There is a rush of Adrenalin to the body, your heart pounds, you feel numb or tingly, you start to breathe too fast and have a dreadful sense of fear and anxiety. You may believe you’re having a heart attack or perhaps going insane.
First panic attacks may be triggered by many things, like a change in blood pressure or blood sugar levels, something hormonal or an effect of drugs or alcohol. Panic disorder occurs when the fear of having another panic attack actually brings on the next attack. Sufferers describe the cycle of fear and attacks as a “living hell”.
About 30 percent of the population have at least one panic attack and two percent of the population have a diagnosed panic or anxiety disorder. By comparison depression affects about four percent of the population.
Hypnosis has been very effective for treatment many of my clients with phobias. A significant percentage of the population suffers from a phobia of one type or another. For some people it can be mildly distressing but others it can be seriously debilitating. A phobia is an irrational fear of a particular stimulus. This stimulus can be a situation, a thing, or an activity.
Many people will either go to great lengths to avoid whatever it is they fear, or they will tolerate it with considerable anxiety. For some people, a phobia can trigger panic attacks. In severe cases the phobia can end up literally controlling a person’s life.
Hypnotherapy works by accessing the underlying pattern and cause of the anxiety or phobia and eliminating the person’s conditioned response to the stimulus. Hypnosis can gently change the thoughts and belief’s to bring the desired change.
Hypnosis is a great way to retrain your mind to let go of the old negative and self defeating thoughts. As you repeat the beliefs you want hey will become natural over time. Self talk is the way you talk to yourself and the loop of thoughts that get stuck in your head. Many people don’t realize how many negative thoughts go through their head constantly. If you can question your negative thoughts and beliefs, you can choose to let them go and replace them with more positive ones.
